For most people, a Maui vacation means sitting back, soaking in the rays, catching a luau, or jumping on a catamaran to see the humpback whales. With a place so stunning, it is hard to not feel inspired. This inspired feeling is encapsulated when walking into the Welzie Art Gallery. Walking in, travelers re-awaken their childlike imagination as they immerse themselves in Welzie’s fun world of unique, playful art on Maui’s beautiful South Shore.

Beyond Welzie’s whimsical style, the medium and process by which it is created is incredibly unique. Originally working as a surfboard maker, he learned to perfect the technique of shaping boards and working with resin. Now, these techniques are lent to mediums beyond surfboards, evolving into art of all different shapes and sizes, including whales, manta rays, life-size sharks and even some large-scale murals.

Visiting The Gallery

Travelers can book an open studio or virtual tour by emailing welzieart@gmail.com. Welzie also offers immersive private art classes in his Wailea gallery for visitors looking to become a part of his playful world. Students leave the classes with a renewed sense of creativity that embraces the vibrance and playfulness of the Valley Isle, as well as their own original piece of Welzie-inspired artwork. Classes are 75 minutes long and cost $129 per child and $169 per adult.

Visiting Virtually

For virtual travelers, the gallery offers art boxes that can be shipped worldwide. Those that purchase can learn how to make Welzie art at home and have all the supplies necessary for creating their own resin masterpiece shipped to them. Welzie Art Boxes start at $189 with one resin panel, but can be customized with extra panels so that the whole family could join in on the fun.
